Position Overview:
The Reading/Instructional Specialist is a dynamic educator who supports K-8 teachers in developing and delivering effective, evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with state standards. Through collaborative coaching, professional development, and ongoing support, the specialist fosters a culture of continuous improvement in teaching practices, ensuring high levels of student achievement in reading and literacy.
Key Responsibilities:
● Instructional Coaching & Support
○ Collaborate with teachers and instructional teams to co-plan effective literacy lessons and strategies.
○ Observe classroom instruction and provide timely, reflective feedback during follow-up reflection conferences.
○ Model lessons or co-teach in classrooms while teachers observe the implementation of effective instructional practices.
○ Support teachers in analyzing student data, including DIBELS and M-Class, to inform instruction and intervention.
● Professional Learning & Development
○ Design and facilitate meaningful professional learning experiences that align with school or district goals for student learning.
○ Coordinate a wide range of professional development opportunities tailored to teachers’ needs and grade-level goals.
○ Foster communities of adult learners by encouraging collaboration, shared inquiry, and reflective practice.
● Curriculum & Standards Implementation
○ Assist in implementing state literacy standards through coaching and collaborative lesson planning.
○ Ensure that literacy instruction is aligned with research-based best practices and current curriculum resources.
